FIDE rating calculations.

πŸ“Š FIDE ratings don’t start from a fixed “0” like many online chess sites do. Under the current official system:

πŸͺ© Minimum Published FIDE Rating

  • To appear on the FIDE rating list, your calculated rating must be at least 1400. If your performance would result in a rating below 1400, you won’t be listed as rated yet.

πŸ“ˆ How You Get Your First Rating

  • You must play at least 5 games against already FIDE-rated players.

  • You must score at least ½ point and achieve a performance that corresponds to ≥1400.

  • When these conditions are met, FIDE calculates your first rating. If the result is below 1400, FIDE still counts the performance, but you remain unrated until you reach 1400 or above.

🧠 Why This Changed

  • In March 2024, FIDE increased the rating floor from 1000 to 1400 so that the published list shows only players rated 1400 and above.
